WRITING TIP #4: Capture Their Attention

WRITING TIP #4:

Capture Their Attention

Let's face it, reports can be boring. Capturing the reader's attention and keeping it will make a huge difference in conveying the needs of your program or service. No matter how well documented the needs of your program may be or that it is backed by data and research, if you don't capture the attention of the group or individuals funding or approving expansion or funding, all of your hard work may have been wasted. What is one of the most interesting stories that express your program's needs?

Consider using a story that represents the need that you are basing the report on. Featuring this story can pull the reader in. Consider an example that the reader can relate to. Share the key features of the story without expanding too much. We don't want the story to be so long to the point that the readers spend all their time on the story leaving little time for the data that supports your program's need.
